Oliver Hirschbiegel

Oliver Hirschbiegel is a renowned German television and film director.

Oliver is the director of the critical and commercial triumph DOWNFALL, which was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, and which won Best Foreign Film at the British Independent Film Awards and the London Critics Circle Film Awards; and the multi award-winning DAS EXPERIMENT, which won him Best Director at the Montreal and Istanbul Film Festivals.

For television, Oliver has directed on Apple TV’s Sci-Fi thriller series CONSTELLATION, the entire second season of hit German series 4BLOCKS for which he was nominated for a Romy for 'Best TV Direction’, the historical drama series BORGIA, all eight episodes of Sky’s UNWANTED and the Netflix anthology series CRIMINAL: GERMANY.

Further television credits include the first block of Tom Fontana’s series BORGIA, TURN for AMC, THE SAME SKY, MÖRDERISCHE ENTSCHEIDUNG – UMSCHALTEN ERWÜNSCHT, BERLIN BERLIN (AKA BACK TO BACK), TATORT, KOMMISSAR REX, BILLIONS and DAS URTEIL, which received an Emmy nomination for Best Foreign TV Drama.

Further film credits include 13 MINUTES, which won ‘Best Film’ at the Munich Film Festival, FIVE MINUTES OF HEAVEN starring Liam Neeson and James Nesbit, for which Oliver won ‘Best Director’ at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for a BAFTA for ‘Best Single Drama’, and DIANA starring Naomi Watts.
